Expectations vs. Reality: How to choose the right hotel room for your vacation

not all hotel rooms are described equally

If you are reading this, you likely already know many of the benefits of using a trusted travel advisor. However, we can all use a reminder from time to time about all of the ways travel advisors work to make sure your trip gets off to a great start. We make sure you know what to expect before during and after travel, that resorts know you are arriving, and that we discuss multiple hotel and room options with you. Advisors work for YOU to make sure that your travel needs are met and that everyone is going into the vacation with the property expectations.

not all hotel rooms are defined equally

One of the biggest issues I hear travelers talk about before using a travel advisor is their hotel and their hotel room. All of the hotels know how to make their rooms look GREAT online. They have amazing photographers and even better marketers on their side. Photos are generally taken of the best rooms with the best angles to make you think that all of the rooms at the hotel will look JUST like the photo. In reality, the rooms in a hotel vary greatly. Make sure to check out the FINE PRINT and read the asterisks at the bottom of the page.

NOT all hotel rooms are created equal, and not all of the rooms will be featured in pictures on the hotel website. Your expectation might be seeing the ocean from the moment you open your room’s door, but the reality might be you can’t see the ocean until you are on the balcony, craning your neck and leaning out a bit to see around the building next to you

Advisors will work with you to make sure you are getting the right room category. Do you know the difference between hotel room descriptions? The chart below is a GENERAL description of room options. Know that each resort writes their own definitions. Some will say your room is Beachfront so you think it's great I’ll see the beach and the ocean, however when you get there you see the beach, but there is a small hill so you can’t see the ocean. There is no standardization in room descriptions in the hotel industry, so really pay attention to and investigate what you are reserving. A travel advisor will make sure you know the differences. We don’t offer you the Ocean view room because it is more expensive, we offer it because we know from chatting that you want to wake up, see the ocean and drink your coffee on a balcony!

Do you know what travel advisors have that those online sites don’t?

…...personal hands-on, in-destination experience. I love my job because I get to travel and see the world. Know that when I’m out of the office and in destination I’m not on vacation. I’m working for you, my traveler. I’m checking out every part of a resort to see what it is like, what it has to offer, and what the different room options are. I’m making connections with the front desk staff, concierge staff, and management team. The more people I know the quicker I can help rescue any travel hiccups that might occur for you. . If I haven’t been to a hotel that is when I reach out to my colleagues or the resort’s staff for clarification. I haven’t been everywhere yet, but it is on my list!

My Priorities for your trip

My top priorities for your vacation are to make sure we are getting you to the right destination, at the right resort, and in the right room. I do my best to explain what your experience will be like so that we can set proper expectations for your trip. You’ve hired me to work for YOU and that is exactly what I will do as your travel advisor what I’m going to do.
